Victorian furniture dates from 1837 to 1901, during the reign of Queen Victoria and was marked by eclecticism. Much of the furniture from this period displays a flair for revivalism, drawing inspiration from gothic, rococo and classical forms often blending influences together in a heady eclectic mix of styles. Victorian furniture is often intricately carved and elaborate in design and this is especially evident in the High Victorian style dating from the early to mid-Victorian era. Later Victorian styles include Gothic Revival or Neo-Gothic, the Japanese influenced Aesthetic movement and the Arts and Crafts movement.
